Referencing

The Courtauld’s recommended referencing style is the Chicago Manual of Style Online.

The Library team and the Academic Skills tutor can support you in using this style.

Some students prefer to organise their sources manually, and if so you might want to use our ‘Organise Your Research’ Excel template.

Chicago Manual of Style

The complete Chicago Manual of Style Online is a comprehensive guide; Chapter 14 provides extensive advice and citation examples.

Cite Them Right

Cite Them Right is available via Senate House Library, and helps you reference correctly across eight referencing styles, including Chicago Manual of Style.

It’s designed to simplify the process of referencing and make it less daunting. It contains useful articles and videos which help to guide students into common queries around referencing, including how to paraphrase, quote, and understanding the differences between secondary and primary sources.

Ensure to use your Senate House Library credentials when accessing Cite Them Right.

We also have a print book of Cite Them Right, available in the Library.

Reference management software via King's Library

Reference Management Software tools can help you keep your sources and streamline the process of creating references.

King’s Library subscribes to several platforms which will keep track of the literature you consult and allow for annotation, tagging, note-taking, and creating relationships between documents; Zotero, Mendeley and EndNote are available and the Library can help you with Zotero.
