The Courtauld Emergency Support Fund
The Emergency Support Fund provides financial aid to meet the immediate short-term needs of students who are experiencing unforeseen and unexpected events which have resulted in financial difficulty. The value of funds awarded will be based on need and can be up to £1500 subject to eligibility criteria being met.
During the 2025-2026 academic year, a portion of the fund will be reserved for Reduced Evidence payments for applications below £100, with fewer eligibility criteria to aid with situations where applications for a higher amount may not be appropriate. The value of funds awarded will be based on need.
You do not have to repay any money obtained from the Emergency Support Fund.
Please note that the Emergency Support Fund is different from The Courtauld Bursary scheme, and more details of how to apply for a bursary can be found at the link below.
Eligibility criteria for the Emergency Support Fund
To be eligible for an award from the Emergency Support Fund all applicants must be enrolled as a student on either a taught or research programme at The Courtauld (either full-time or part-time)
When applying for Reduced Evidence funds you must:
- Provide a description of the reason for applying
- Provide 1 month bank statement as evidence of need
To apply for a higher award you must:
- Be able to demonstrate that you have made reasonable provisions to cover your tuition fees and daily living expenses, for which supporting evidence is required.
- Have applied for all other eligible sources of funding before applying. This could include means-tested maintenance student loans and grants, Child Tax Credits, Housing Benefit, Parents Learning Allowance, Childcare Grant, Council Tax Reduction
- Provide 3 months bank statements as evidence of need.
The Emergency Support can not be used to pay tuition fees.
There is no limit to the number of applications a student can make for the Reduced Evidence payments but multiple payments will be made at the Wellbeing Manager’s discretion.
We will usually only consider one application per academic year per student, although additional applications will be considered under exceptional circumstances.
Assessment and notification
Applications for Emergency Support Fund payments are to be made via the following online form:
Hardship Fund Application 2025/26
Applications will be considered on receipt of a completed form with all required supporting evidence. Reduced Evidence applications are usually processed within 2-3 days and full applications are processed within 7 days after which you will be notified of the decision.
On occasion, further evidence may requested to help in the decision making process.
If you make a successful application the payment will be made directly to your bank as quickly as possible, and usually within a few days.
The Emergency Support Fund is limited so applications will close once all funds have been allocated for the academic year.
