Frequently asked questions

How many students are you accepting to the programme in 2024/25?

It depends on the number of Special Options which we are running in each academic year. We ordinarily have 8-10 students enrolled on to each Special Option. 

What are the semester dates?

How will I be assessed?

The formal assessment of MA History of Art is based on the following four components:

  1. A 4,000 word essay relating to the special option, valued at 15% of the overall degree classification (Semester 1).
  2. A second 4,000 word essay relating to the special option, valued at 20% of the overall degree classification (Semester 2).
  3. A virtual exhibition assignment, involving the selection and presentation of works of art to be included in an exhibition addressing a particular theme, valued at 15% of the overall degree classification (Semester 2).
  4. A 10,000 word dissertation, researched and written over a period of approximately three months with supervision from the special option leader. The dissertation is valued at 50% of the overall degree classification (Summer).

Can I study a language at The Courtauld?

While we do not provide language classes at The Courtauld, students are able to access language courses through King’s College London’s Language Centre.

Is it possible to receive a deposit refund?

Deposits are ordinarily non-refundable, however, we will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis.

Can I defer my place?

We are ordinarily unable to defer places, although may consider deferrals on a case-by-case basis.

When are the tuition fees due?

Invoices are issued in late August / early September, in line with our preliminary enrolment period which takes place online.

When will the reading list be available?

 Once you have firmly accepted your place on the course, you tutor will be in touch in the early summer with the reading list.

You are also very welcome to get in touch with your tutor prior to this.

Do I have to purchase books from the reading list?

No, all compulsory texts on your reading lists will be available online to you. 

Where can I find out about accommodation?

What support do you provide for students with disabilities?

You will be supported by a Wellbeing Manager to support any needs you may have on a one-to-one basis. Find out more about student support.

For current students, we have a Hardship Fund.

Will I receive careers support?

You will receive a range of support as a Courtauld student, from careers guidance, to support with part-time jobs and internships. You will also receive support for two years after graduation. Read more here.
