The Bar | Up Close webinar (part of Reworking Manet)

Live Brief for state school students aged 14-18

Édouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882) is considered his best work because it pushes at the boundaries of art and portraiture in many different ways, inviting the viewer to consider some powerful questions about Paris social life at the time.

This webinar looks to deepen attendees understanding of the painting by exploring aspects of the painting, from its materials and techniques, historical context and hidden meanings.

This webinar is part of Reworking Manet, a live brief for state school students aged 14-18, which asks participants to research, interrogate and create a personal response to the painting in any media. Students are welcome to join this webinar regardless if they take part in the wider Reworking Manet live brief.

Our The Bar | Close Up workshop will take place online on Monday 13th February 2023 and will be led by art historian Francesca Herrick. Bookings are open.
