The Courtauld would like to invite teachers and organisational leads to our online Re-working Manet teachers launch event on Tuesday 6th December.
Re-working Manet is an open brief asking UK based students aged between 14-18 to interrogate and create a personal response to Edouard Manet’s famous painting, A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882). It will encourage students to consider the wider contextual aspects of art history, curation, conservation and artistic production by exploring The Courtauld’s Collections in parallel with contemporary works exploring similar issues today.
Participants will create a proposal for work of art that acts as a ‘provocation’ to spark debate and encourage young people to respond creatively and draw further parallels of their own experiences.
The teachers launch event, run by artist and art Historian Toya Walker and Fran Herrick will introduce the brief, exploring various aspects of the A Bar at the Folies-Bergère and provide guidance to teachers wishing to launch Re-working Manet within their classroom.
