What is a self-portrait? How do artists reveal their identity through self-portraiture? Join us to debate these questions alongside exploring The Courtauld’s new schools/colleges exhibition, Sense of Self.
Throughout the day attendees will analysis and discuss the similarities and contrasts between Van Gogh’s ‘Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear’ and artworks by contemporary artist Rachel Jones, in relation to self-identity.
As part of the day’s activities, students will tour The Courtauld Gallery, take part in informal discussion groups and create their own Sense of Self portrait.
This session will be lead by art historian and gallery educator Francesca Herrick and National Schools Officer, Tessa Carr.
