Wed 4 October, 18:00 – 22:00
For the final 2023 instalment of the Morgan Stanley Lates with Somerset House and The Courtauld series, visitors can experience another true site-wide takeover with a night of film screenings, activities hosted by artists and curators, DJ sets, plus food and drink pop-ups.
Taking place three times per year only – in April, June and October – these special one-off nights out offer after-hours access and activities hosted by artists and curators, plus delicious food pop-ups and bars, and DJ sets to see you through the evening.
Join us to explore The Courtauld Gallery’s latest exhibition Claudette Johnson: Presence (opens 29 September). A founding member of the Black British Arts Movement, Johnson is considered one of the most significant figurative artists of her generation. This exhibition will present a carefully selected group of major works from across her career, and will offer a compelling overview of Johnson’s pioneering career and artistic development.
Explore Impressionist masterpieces in The Courtauld’s collection, and take part in pop-up talks, hands on activities and meet the experts. Further details to be announced.
There will be a range of activities across Somerset House on the evening including The Handson Family’s Heritage, a celebration of intergenerational Black British club music culture, Somerset House Studios resident Sonya Dyer’s new commission Three Parent Child, the artist’s first solo exhibition in London, and Theresa Weber’s installation Cycles of Unmasking, which aims to connect Somerset House’s many layers and levels in new ways.
There’s also free access for U25s and £5 admission for others to The Morgan Stanley Exhibition: THE MISSING THREAD, revealing the untold stories of Black British fashion and the profound impact of Black creativity on music, photography, art and design.
More free activity and artists will be announced in the next few weeks.
All courtyard activities will be free of charge to everyone, whilst after-hours exhibition entry will also be free to those aged 25 and under.
