The Research Forum is delighted to welcome back Violinist Katrina Lee for an evening of music and art. Katrina, a long standing collaborator with The Courtauld, has previously supported on musical reinterpretations of our collection: considering Monet and Mindfulness during lockdown, even playing a rendition for Charles III at a private gallery event, and celebrating the work of overlooked artist Helen Saunders in 2023. This special musical event, carries on the work of Elizabeth Courtauld. Elizabeth, wife of Courtauld founder, was  a patron of music and progressive benefactor of social causes in her own right.

Join us to hear performances from Katrina’s debut solo album that celebrate female patronage, performance and composition. Katrina has set out to celebrate and bring to light the voices of three female composers in solo works for her instrument. The Ten Caprices by Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté, who was hugely prominent during her own lifetime, bring together dedications to loved ones, reactions on death and illness, and memories of places from the composer’s wide-ranging life. Elizabeth Maconchy’s music is gaining increasing recognition, and Katrina unveils a set of unpublished Miniatures. Sally Beamish’s The Wise Maid provides light relief through its virtuosic interpretation of an Irish folk tune.

Katrina Lee will be joined by Leah Broad, music historian and author of Quartet: How four women challenged the musical world and Leyla Bumbra, Research Forum Programme Manager at The Courtauld to contextualise the music in history and within the walls of The Courtauld gallery.

Please note that seating is not guaranteed for attendees, with only a limited number of gallery stools available. If you have any accessibility requirements, kindly inform a member of our team upon registration, and we will do our best to provide a stool for your use.
