Artists have been using maths since at least the 4th century, and quite possibly even earlier. These workshops support students to develop their mathematical understanding whilst discovering the creative possibilities such knowledge can open up. In our collection we have a number of artworks which can be used to explore key terms such as tesselation, symmetry and rotation whilst also learning about the rich history of objects from other countries and cultures.rnrnOur workshops are delivered by a team of specialist educators so will vary according to who is available on your chosen date but they will all include engaging closely with an artwork and ideas about subject, process and composition. Activities might include students developing their own original geometric design or creating a collaborative tiled tesselation.
