Drawing Narrative with The Harris Art Gallery, Museum and Library, Preston

Drawing Narrative was created alongside The Artful Line exhibition at The Harris Museum, Art Gallery and Library in Preston. Our projects in schools with artist Gavin Renshaw were postponed in 2020, and instead he created a resource and interview which spotlights the inspiration he found in the story of Caliban, the Courtaulds Ltd steam engine.

Drawing Narrative resource for secondary students

Artist Gavin Renshaw was commissioned by the Harris to create a work for The Artful Line exhibition that responds to aspects of Courtaulds Ltd heritage. He discovered the story of Caliban, a Courtaulds Ltd steam engine currently being restored by volunteers from Ribble Steam Railway.

In this resource Gavin provides a series of exercises designed to help capture narrative through drawing.

Interview with Frank Auerbach

With the kind permission of Frank Auerbach and Courtauld alumna Alma Zevi (BA 2010), we published this interview with the artist alongside The Artful Line exhibition (first published in The Art Newspaper, April 2020). Through this fascinating conversation, Frank Auerbach discusses how his approach to drawing informs his larger works.
