Our Learning Department uses a combination of art history and practical art-based approaches to uncover the intentions and processes behind works of art. These resources can be used by teachers, young people and anyone interested in finding out more about the artists and artworks in the collection.

FOCUS: Light Touch, Hands and Experimental Drawing

This three-panel work, known as ‘The Seilern Triptych’, is one of the finest examples of Northern Renaissance painting. The central panel depicts Christ’s burial, shortly after his body is taken down from the cross (seen in the left wing, where the two thieves executed with him remain).
