Salary: £2,800 with paid transportation to and from Maastricht, and accommodation during the fair.

Hours: Fourteen days in total.  During the fair approximately 8 hours per day.  Three days set up, and one break down day will be longer, up to 10-12 hours.

 

Description of role & details:

Rupert Wace is a private collector and dealer of ancient artefacts from Egypt, the classical world and Near East. We are currently looking for an assistant to help our small team with running our stand at TEFAF25 Maastricht.  This would be an excellent opportunity for a personable and enthusiastic student or graduate with an interest in the commercial art world, and a passion for all things ancient.  TEFAF Maastricht is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious art fairs, and this would offer a rare chance to see the inner workings of the art world in full flow.

The job would entail working on all aspects of running a stand, from set up and break down to assisting clients and visitors, on the spot research, running errands, and keeping the stand presentable.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Student or graduate in History of Art, Archaeology, classical studies or Egyptology
  • Previous work experience, either voluntary and/or paid, within the art sector, particularly working an international fair such as Frieze or TEFAF
  • Client facing experience
  • Personable and engaging; comfortable in a selling environment
  •  Stamina!  TEFAF is face-paced work environment
  • In depth knowledge in one or more of the relevant disciplines
  • Fluency in one or more European languages a big plus
