Professor Stephen Whiteman appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Art Bulletin

Professor Stephen Whiteman (Professor of the Art and Architecture of China at The Courtauld) has recently been appointed as Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Art Bulletin alongside Professor Maya Stanfield-Mazzi (Professor of Art History at the University of Florida). 

The Art Bulletin publishes leading scholarship in the English language in all aspects of art history as practiced in the academy, museums, and other institutions. 

Professor Whiteman, said: “I am honoured and excited to take up stewardship of The Art Bulletin, one of the foremost journals in our field, at this challenging moment. Professor Stanfield-Mazzi and I aspire to continuing the work of shaping the journal to reflect the diverse, vibrant, and essential field that it represent.” 

Courtauld faculty members now hold editorial leadership positions in a number of major English-language art history journals, underlining the institution’s commitment to supporting the field through service and scholarship.  

Professor Alixe Bovey (Professor of Medieval Art History at The Courtauld, currently on research leave) is Editor-in-Chief ofBritish Art Studies, published by the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art and the Yale Centre for British Art. Alixe took up the role in June 2025 with a tenure of two years. 

Professor Steve Edwards (Manton Professor of British Art and Director of the Manton Centre for British Art at The Courtauld) is currently the chair of the editorial group for the Oxford Art .

Dr Lucy Bradnock (Reader in Modern and Contemporary Art and Dean for Research at The Courtauld) is currently Editor of Art History, the journal of the Association for Art History.
