Join us in-person at The Courtauld Gallery for a behind-the-scenes introduction to the world of wall painting conservation.
Participants will have the chance to visit our new exhibition showcasing the spectacular medieval murals at Longthorpe Tower near Peterborough. As well as learning about the history of the site, and the making and meaning of its paintings, you will gain insights into our current collaboration with English Heritage to conserve this important scheme.
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity for some hands-on practical experience in our state-of-the art conservation studios. Working with members of the Conservation team, you will discover more about wall painting materials and techniques while creating your own small wall painting replica.
Run by Courtauld Lecturers Sibylla Tringham and Emily Howe, the day will provide you with valuable insights into this fascinating area of study, which brings scientific approaches to the study of art.
