This evening debate will focus on the future of art history in education, against a backdrop of recent events surrounding the History of Art A Level. A panel of invited speakers will discuss the causes, consequences and clamour surrounding the announcement that the A Level may disappear, discussing how we got to where we are, what action should be taken to move things forward, and what art history in education looks like in the long-term. The panel will reflect from the perspective of schools, universities, cultural organisations, asking why art history is important and what we need to do to encourage and nurture a more meaningful, thoughtful relationship with the arts and visual culture.
Organised by The Courtauld Institute of Art and Association of Art Historians.
The event is aimed for anyone involved with or interested in art history in education and wider public engagement. The discussion will be followed by a drinks reception.
