Spencer House is one of the finest 18th century great houses in London. The House was originally designed in 1756 by John Vardy, a pupil of William Kent, who was then superseded by James ‘Athenian’ Stewart in 1758. Vardy made it his showcase for classical design and a great house for entertaining at the same time. Later, around 1783, the house was remodelled again, this time by Henry Holland.

The house belonged for over 150 years to the Spencer family but they moved out for the last time in 1926 when it became a private members club.

The house shows to great advantage wonderful paintings including five by Benjamin West, graciously lent by Her Majesty The Queen. The house is still lavishly decorated with classical sculpture, period furniture, a library and the famous Palm Room.

The Friends will have a private tour of the house.
