In this painting, I drew inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s use of background objects to symbolise his influences and artistic goals. I wanted to mirror this concept by creating a background that reflects my influences, hobbies and aspirations.
Just as Van Gogh’s painting captures a specific moment of his life marked by mental health struggles, I wanted mine to offer a similar snapshot, designed to reflect my personality and the things that surround me right now. I used a similar composition and subtly emphasised colours, trying to pick up the more unconventional shades found within Van Gogh’s self-portrait, in a way that complements my own painting style.
