Speaking about Art

Twelve 16- to 18-year-old students from New City College in their first year of learning English took part in The Courtauld’s ‘Speaking about Art’ project, in which they learnt about works of art in the collection whilst developing visual analysis skills and gaining confidence in public speaking. The group prepared a short presentation on a chosen work, which they delivered to the rest of the class.

The students then returned to the Courtauld Gallery to look closely at the paintings of Vincent van Gogh and Rachel Jones, and create their own works in response to colour, abstraction and personal expression in mark-making. Their thoughts are captured here in their presentations.
