Self Portrait with Everyone
Maria Fidelis Catholic School, Year 10
Oil pastel on watercolour paper
This collaborative piece brings together 28 individual works. Inspired by Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear, students explored Vincent van Gogh’s expressive markmaking as a starting point to develop their own visual language.
Reimagining self-portraiture as a shared act of looking and being seen, each student created a personal response – honouring their individuality while working as part of a collective whole. At its core, the work is a celebration of community, a reminder that identity is shaped not just by how we see ourselves, but by how we are seen, supported and reflected by those around us.
