Yarn, map and printed image
To make my artwork, I first took a picture of myself with postcards stuck on the wall behind me as a background. I then printed it off and added cut-outs of a map in the blank spaces. After that, I made crochet and stuck it around the postcards as a frame.
Just as Van Gogh used lots of thick brushstrokes to add texture to his art, I used crochet to add texture to mine. The bright colours – especially the oranges and blues – were inspired by
Rachel Jones. This piece explores the theme of ‘journeys’, with postcards from different countries and maps that travel across the page.
