We can learn much about the lives of other people and ourselves through looking at and creating portraits. Artworks in our collection provide a rich source of material and prompt discussion allowing students to develop confidence in their opinions and creative responses.
Our workshops are delivered by a team of specialist educators so will vary according to who is available on your chosen date but they will all include engaging closely with an artwork and ideas about subject, process and composition.
Activities might include learning about key devices used by artists to convey identity such as expression, pose, background, costume and symbolic objects then using this to develop a self portrait or a collaborative class portrait.
