This piece was inspired by walks around the city. I have selected the train station as a main theme to the work. I then worked over the top with mindful doodles that came to me as I looked at the image and started to notice different things within the picture. I started to become aware of what Hull means to me. I worked in layers and different materials to link with how the thoughts occurred to me as I created this piece.

Making this piece involved a physical journey that I take every day but this time exploring the area more than I usually would. When taking photos I really started to pay attention to the environment around me that I never looked twice at before. This experience really forced me to look more closely and I discovered some really nice architecture in the area of Hull. Claude Monet was the artist who inspired the piece the most because I loved the way he painted how he himself saw what was in front of him.

My work was inspired by Abigail Reynolds and also by famous monuments and buildings in Hull. It has all warped and changed over time, and a lot of conflict has happened, like wars and disputes, but still Hull persevered and carried on. I was also inspired by all the colour and street art around hull.

I took my own photos because I wanted to have my own pictures that would not only be unique but that I chose the story and background of them. I was inspired by both Abigail Reynolds and Claude Monet, and I wanted to include images but also paints and pastels. Looking around Hull when I took these pictures, it seemed as if places have changed and the images show that because I used old buildings and modern buildings to have a futuristic and a vintage look. When taking my photos I was surprised at the history of Hull and the buildings around me. My curiosity and imagination led me to my final piece.
Hull Picture It, Eleanor Gouldson (2021)
A collection of the most interesting parts of the city from east to west; there’s not a single area of Hull that is not rich in history. In my artwork I used collage methods, using primary and secondary photos to show the physical journey I took and to incorporate other aspects of the city that I didn’t get to photograph. I took inspiration from Abigail Reynolds and Larissa Fassler. I wanted to combine different styles and interpret the different techniques they used in their own work. Doing this project has made me pay more attention to my surroundings and the people in Hull. It also made me realise that if you look longer, even for a few more seconds, you’ll notice some incredible things that are right in front of you.

Departures, Holly Bell (2021)
I wanted my art to have a resemblance of Hull’s past. However, I also wanted it to associate with the place that I live, the normal journeys I take and the places I see a lot. I picked the docks, as I pass them a lot and this allowed me to draw them from memory and picture. When looking in town, I now notice more of the smaller details in the buildings which I may have not noticed before. I also picked boats to link to the strong fishing past in hull. The artist inspiration for my work is Claude Monet.

To create the art work I went on a journey through the city. I then took pictures of buildings that stood out to me. I have chosen this building due to it being a wonderful piece of architecture. I was inspired by Abigail Reynolds, who uses pictures and cuts pieces out to create a contrast in colour. I have chosen this method as a way of expressing that happiness is always there, you just need to look for it.
Hull, A Changing City, Kieran Parker (2021)
I took a photo of the Humber bridge and the deep and edited them by cutting them out and remaking a whole new photo. My artwork incorporates different sensory resources as I went out and took the photos and travelled so that I made sure the artwork was my own. While finding the photo for this project it has made me realise that there are hidden places that you don’t see often as when you travel it is by car or bus and you don’t explore further than where your destination is. The places I have chosen have related to the artwork we have been doing as it is a part of the City of Hull’s most visited attractions, and people know what they are. The artist that inspired me was Abigail Reynolds.

My work responds to Monet’s Antibes. I noticed how the brushstrokes reflected the mood of the scene that he had travelled to see. I liked how he captured the weather on the day by using paints. I was inspired by this and decide to experiment with oil pastels and see if I could blend and mix the colours to recreate an automorphic scene of an iconic building in Hull. I chose the Deep in Hull as the water reflects the light and, like the work by Monet, this scene is ever changing.

My piece takes you through some of the journeys or places I have come across walking around Hull. I was inspired by Abigail Reynolds work because it is very simple but can make the artwork look very unique. Creating my artwork about Hull’s nostalgia has made me realise more about the city I live in and the fascinating buildings around me. I have interpreted Larissa Fassler’s work into mine by showing a journey around Hull and what you can see around these places. This makes my work realistic and more personal to me.

Going for walks and remembering the place and people that I have seen on that day became an important event during lockdown. The places that I’d never noticed before became interesting as I had time to see them. Recording by walks has helped to increase the awareness of the city and how people are only a part of it.

Working in collage and paint was a good way to edit and transform the places that I see in the city. Being able to create my own way of seeing the building was fun and I would use this technique again.

My work was inspired by the artist Abigail Reynolds. In this piece I worked with images of Hull buildings taken in the 1970’s in black and white. I edited the building by adding and taking away parts of the image. I noticed that I was redesigning the building by picking out the lines and structure of the place. This building it is monochromatic so adding the bright colours created a strong contrast which complemented the structure and tones of the building more. When I was working on this piece of work it changed the way I look around when I’m walking. I discovered a few new buildings and landmarks. My work shows how when I look at buildings I edit my viewpoint of the building in my memory.

My artwork is inspired by Abigail Reynolds as in her artwork she uses collages as a method to express art in a different and unique way. I used a picture of one of the many buildings in Hull to show you what the old buildings look like now, and the map is showing you direction on how people can get to the city centre where there is a lot of old town buildings to look at.
The Streets of Hull, Zoe Parkinson (2021)
The picture I worked with was one I took myself. To obtain the right l ighting I went late at night at sunset. Making this piece made me think about the world’s natural colours and how much we actually experience in everyday life. My work is inspired by Claude Monet. I love how his work is predominantly nature and sights. I also love these themes, so making my work about that was exciting. Hull is known for many things, but I think the Humber Bridge is one of its best, most beautiful and brilliant outcomes.
