Why Duchy House?
A 30-to-40 minute walk to our Vernon Square premises, Duchy House is located next door to Somerset House, on the corner of The Strand and Lancaster Place. The premises offers easy access to London’s key attractions, including Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Oxford Street, West End Theatres, and the Southbank. Various recreational activities are also close by, including cinemas, music venues, and several galleries such as The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, to Tate Modern and our own Courtauld Gallery.

Duchy House is available to current continuing and postgraduate Courtauld students on both nine-month and twelve-month programmes only.
We offer 63 single occupancy rooms across four floors, with six different room types. A summary of these are displayed in the table below. Applications to live in Duchy House come direct through The Courtauld, and the application portal for 2025/26 is now open see link below.
Based on our semester and course submission dates, Duchy House will offer 37-week contracts, which cover vacation periods between Autumn, Spring, and Summer semesters. The option of a 50-week contract is also available. For further information and how to apply, please click the link below.
Note, due to some external maintenance work being planned for summer 2026, scaffolding may being installed to the external facade in April/May 2026 and will be in place over the summer period until September 2026.
