Green Education in Conservation

GOGREEN is an EU-funded project developing sustainable, preventive, and remedial conservation practices. The Courtauld is leading Work Package 7 which targets advancing Green Education in Conservation. Project members have collaborated to devise a pedagogical programme which enables the integration of sustainability into conservation and conservation science education and practice.

The programme modules address distinct challenges and sustainable practices across four core themes:
• Leadership in green conservation
• Determining material sensitivities and green decision-making
• Green treatments and their assessment for paintings
• Green treatments and their assessment for objects

The programme’s thematic structure allows for focused instruction and practical application, supporting the smooth integration of the modules into educational curricula and professional development schemes. Each module is presented through a range of accessible and adaptable session templates, divided into themed blocks with suggested content, assessments, and activities.
