Elizabeth Frances Rose is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. A Chancellor’s Scholar at Queen’s University (BAH, Art History and Spanish Language and Literature, 2015), she holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Toronto (Art History, 2019; Medieval Studies, 2020). Her research interests include the artistic cultures of Inner and East Asia, medieval Europe, and the Islamic world, with a focus on the art of the Mongol Empire and its successor states.
Elizabeth is currently working on a dissertation tentatively entitled “Mobile Arts of the Mongol Empires,” supported by a Canada Graduate Scholarship, which examines Mongol art objects, such as tents, belts, and saddles, from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. In the pursuit of her research into premodern Eurasian art history, Elizabeth has studied Mongolian, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Latin, and Franco-Italian.
