Dr Thupten Kelsang

2026 Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Buddhism Public Scholar

Thupten Kelsang is a museum anthropologist specialising in community-engaged research and Tibetan museum collections. He previously led the AHRC-funded Reanimating Tibetan Heritage project at the Victoria and Albert Museum and has advised the British Museum, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the British Library, and the Horniman Museum. Thupten holds a DPhil in Anthropology from the University of Oxford, where he was a Clarendon Fellow and received the Wenner-Gren Engaged Research Grant and the ACLS-Ho Foundation Dissertation Fellowship. Before entering academia, he worked as a community organiser and independent researcher, speaking on Tibetan heritage at platforms including the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the Prince Claus Fund.
