10th Series of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year begins – with the prize commission going on display at The Courtauld Gallery
The tenth series of Sky Arts Landscape of the Year begins on 22 Jan 2025, and The Courtauld is delighted to be a partner on this milestone series.
Hosted by Stephen Mangan, Landscape of the Year spans the length and breadth of the UK challenging the artists with some of the most breath-taking and complex views: from the dramatic Llanberis Lake, at the foot of Yr Wyddfa – or Mount Snowdon and Bristol’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, to a landscape fit for a King at Hampton Court Palace and the newly regenerated King’s Cross Basin, the artists will take in stunning vistas and the most modern urban environments.
Artists in each heat will choose their preferred medium to create an al fresco painting in just four hours, in a bid to be crowned Landscape Artist of the Year. Judges – award winning portrait artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, curator Kathleen Soriano, and art historian Kate Bryan – assess their progress with discerning eyes to finally choose the Landscape Artist of the Year.
The winner will secure a £10,000 commission to create a landscape in a very special location in the South of France, which will be on display in the LVMH Great Room at The Courtauld Gallery this spring.
Tune in tonight (22 January) for the first episode on Sky Arts.
