Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2025 winning commission now on display at The Courtauld Gallery

13 Mar 2025

Artist Ben Macgregor has been crowned as the winner of this year’s Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, securing a £10,000 commission to create a landscape in the South of France. The painting is now on display in the LVMH Great Room at The Courtauld Gallery.

Hosted by Stephen Mangan, the 10th series of Landscape of the Year spanned the length and breadth of the UK challenging the artists with some of the most breath-taking and complex views: from the dramatic Llanberis Lake, at the foot of Yr Wyddfa – or Mount Snowdon and Bristol’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, to a landscape fit for a King at Hampton Court Palace.

No stranger to the competition, Ben reached the semi-finals in 2020 and dedicated the years following to an Impressionistic style of painting. His submission of a Wiltshire country lane secured him a place on the 10th series.

Barnaby Wright, Deputy Head of The Courtauld Gallery, said: ‘Ben has created a remarkable painting that draws us into an evocative world of landscape and art that feels both natural and staged. Displayed among the great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist landscapes in The Courtauld gallery’s collection, his work demonstrates the ongoing vitality of the genre. We are delighted to have partnered with Sky Arts on the Landscape Artist of the Year competition and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Gallery to see Ben’s winning painting.’

Landscape Artist of the Year is hosted by Stephen Mangan, with Tai Shan Schierenberg, Kathleen Soriano and Kate Bryan on the judging panel.

The painting can viewed in our LVMH Great Room by booking a ticket to our Permanent Collection, or Goya to Impressionism + Permanent Collection. The Courtauld Gallery is open Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm (last entry 5.15pm). Courtauld Friends and under 18s go free.
