Open Courtauld Hour – The Courtauld Institute of Art’s brand new weekly series of Art historical mini-festivals – is here!

Over recent years, there has been a growing appreciation of the potential impact that art can have on health and wellbeing. In our second session, we will investigate the powerful supplementation of arts alongside medicine and care to foster an environment that improves health — within and with out a healthcare setting. Join Rebecca Chamberlain (Lecturer in Psychology at Goldsmiths University), Sir Leszek Borysiewicz (Chair of Cancer Research UK and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge), Michaela Ross (Research Lead, Bethlem Gallery) and Jasmine Cooray (poet and counsellor) in discussions and performances exploring access to the arts in healthcare environments, the power of ‘Slow Art’ within galleries and museums and debate on the subject of mental and physical health and artistic practice.

The series will touch on pertinent issues — exploring how artists and galleries are adapting to the digital world, showcasing art historical research in light of this global pandemic and providing a platform for creative practice lockdown. These episodes will focus on four themes impacting the arts today. This will range from ‘Art in Isolation’, ‘Art, Care and the NHS’, ‘The Future of Art History’ to ‘Women Artists’.

This weekly online event will take place from wherever you, via zoom, will give you time to clap for our carers — the event launching on Thursday the 30th of April, 20.05 – 21.00.

Details on how to join will be sent to all those who have registered 48 hours before each episode. Registration is free but must be pre-booked.

If you have any problems logging on to the event please email researchforum@courtauld.ac.uk. You can also email us throughout the event to ask questions, and we will do our best to answer.
