Guided visit of Hogarth’s House, Chiswick

We are delighted to have Robin Simon giving us a guided tour of Hogarth’s House, country home of William Hogarth in the 18th century, which contains an extensive collection of prints and engravings by the artist. The house has been restored to tell the history of his life and the building and contains many of his original personal possessions and art works.

Robin Simon is an alumnus (MA 1971), historian of British art and critic, editor of The British Art Journal and an expert on William Hogarth. His books include Hogarth, France and British Art: The Rise of the Arts in Eighteenth-Century Britain (2007) and The Royal Academy of Arts: History and Collections (2018).

Optional extension, not included in the ticket price:

The talk will be followed by a visit to the churchyard where Hogarth is buried, as is Whistler, and to the parish church of St Nicholas, before walking along Church Street down to the river Thames. You are then invited to join us for lunch in a local pub.

Chiswick House is located next to Hogarth’s House and can easily be visited on the same day, if you wish.

This event is now fully booked. You may register for the waiting list by emailing membership@courtauld.ac.uk  If you don’t hear from us, there are no new places available.
