Friends event at Somerset House: Launch of Cockayne Commissions

Tue 15 Jun, 2021

A series of new works from Studio resident artists Alan Warburton, AlbumCorp and FRAUD, commissioned with the generous support of the London Community Foundation and Cockayne – Grants for the Arts.

What are the implications of producing, collecting and sorting data for society and the individual? The works in the exhibition take a critical look at systematic ambiguity within the media dominated era we live in.

Including video, sound and sculptural installations, the works explore those (not entirely) unintended, secondary effects of mediation processes. Such processes unfold in many directions and through many networks. They are complex, opaque, ambiguous: as a matter of fact, even the simple action of counting becomes significant in a different way, if strategically positioned in the mechanism it is part of.
