The Courtauld digitisation team to host ‘Architecture of the Future’ event

Staff and volunteers from The Courtauld’s Conway Library digitisation project are hosting a free online event – Architecture of the Future: Past and Present – as part of the Being Human festival on Wednesday 18 November at 5pm GMT.

Since 2017, the team has been busy digitising over one million photographs of world architecture and design in the Conway Library. The entire Conway Library collection will eventually be available online as high-resolution images so that a wider range of people can access them, and so that the Library will be easier to search and use as a research and educational resource. This project is part of our ‘Courtauld Connects’ transformation project and is part funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

In the Architecture of the Future: Past and Present event, the team will present their highlights from the collection including photographs of neo-classical and brutalist designs that were once – and in some cases still are – visions of the future. The team will share an insight into the most ambitious photographic digitisation project in the UK and will give attendees the chance to discover these newly digitised treasures before the website is launched in 2021.
