The Courtauld is able to support a limited number of applications to externally funded postdoctoral schemes each year.

Awards supported include the British Academy’s Postdoctoral Fellowship and Newton International Fellowship schemes, and Wellcome Early-Career Awards.

We are not currently supporting applications for Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships.

Application Process

We run an internal selection process aimed at ensuring that the strongest possible applications are put forward for these competitive schemes. We take into consideration the strength of the research proposal, the individual’s track record, and alignment with The Courtauld’s research environment to ensure that we can provide suitable support for candidates’ research.

Candidates wishing to apply for an externally funded postdoctoral award via The Courtauld are asked to provide the following information in an application form, which can be downloaded below:

  1. CV to date and publication record
  2. Research proposal (1,000-word limit)
  3. Project workplan (500-word limit)
  4. Details of proposed outputs and plans for publication/dissemination (500-word limit)

Each candidate’s application must also be supported by a current member of our Faculty, who will act as a mentor if the application receives funding.

Faculty members are required to submit a separate statement of up to 300 words in support of the proposal via a form which can be downloaded below; it is the responsibility of the candidate to arrange for this to take place ahead of the relevant deadline.

A full list of Courtauld faculty members is available at https://courtauld.ac.uk/research/faculty/.

The application form and statement of support template can be downloaded using the links below.
