Support our students

Invest in young people and students

Founded on the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to engage with art, the Courtauld is committed to widening access to art education and attracting the very best students from across the world, regardless of their background or financial circumstances.

Through the generous support of our community of supporters, we offer approximately 60 scholarships annually. However, the need for financial support far outweighs the funds available.

With your support we want to break down the obstacles to an art education and nurture the next generation of students who will go on to change the sector as they become curators, art historians, teachers, writers and leaders, and make a positive impact on the world.

Through the creation of the Courtauld Next Generation Fund, we aim to provide opportunities to young people who may not otherwise consider a career in the arts, by doubling the funding available.

Your gift can support key areas of need:

  • Schools – working with teachers and young people by bringing art and its diverse colourful histories to life through a lively innovative programme.
  • Undergraduate students – helping students to reach their potential through critical scholarship funding at BA level.
  • Postgraduate students – investing in students who will develop our understanding of art and its social and political context at MA and PhD level.
  • Mentoring – supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds studying at the Courtauld through an alumni mentoring programme.

You can give annually, across a few years or through our endowment fund to allow many generations of students to benefit from your visionary support.

Spotlight: The student perspective

Dr Janet O’Brien is a former student who graduated from the Courtauld with both an MA and PhD, specialising in the Arts of Iran and Islam.

Janet is forging an international career and is currently a Curatorial Fellow in South Asian and Islamic Art at Harvard Art Museums.

Janet reflects on the significant impact of scholarships:

“The scholarship eases the financial burden, but more precious than that, it is a gift of possibilities that opens up a whole new world of knowledge, interconnections, and wonderment.  I urge you to support this vital fund so that other aspiring students may fulfil their potential to lead and serve the field.”
