Sophie, Year 12
“My journey through this project with The Courtauld was an inspiring event that introduced me to many outstanding artists that allowed me to create an interesting piece using my memories from my childhood, which is similar to Peter Doig whom paints using his depiction from a memory. I have noticed the reality of life is much different than my perspective as a child. For this piece I have created a 3D effect of a bridge at a park from my childhood to highlight how the past was innocent than the present day and my realisation as a young adult how the world really is. Abigail Reynolds use of paper and card to create 3D imagery inspired me to add this layer of the bridge above the background painting. I was moved by the artist Claude Monet and his impressionistic technique. I included this outstanding technique to emphasize the distorted memories of my childhood rather than the reality of life.”
