Insights Into Art History

Reworking The Courtauld Collection

Free Young People's Workshop

The Courtauld collection consists of a remarkable collection includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, ranging from the medieval period to the present day. It is particularly known for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, with such iconic works as Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère.

Come and discover The Courtauld collection with The Courtauld Learning team, Tessa Carr and Jonathan Bridges. Together attendees will explore the collection providing a superb introduction to Art History.

Throughout the day we will think about how contemporary artists have used works in The Courtauld collection to create their own work, bringing new understanding and meaning to these well-known artworks.

Attendees will also get the chance to devise and start their own interpretation of an artwork from the collection, inspired by our past exhibition Reworking Manet, which displayed creative responses to Édouard Manet’s famous painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882).
