Art and Impressionism

The Courtauld has a unique collection of Impressionist paintings. Discover what was happening in Europe at the time that lead to this innovation in the creative arts and find out about the different techniques artists used such as plein aire painting and experimentation with colour.

Our workshops are delivered by a team of specialist educators so will vary according to who is available on your chosen date but they will all include engaging closely with an artwork and ideas about subject, process and composition. Activities might include capturing movement through drawing or exploring atmosphere through the senses and creative writing.

Our educators are experienced at adapting activities and discussion to suit your students’ level and ability and will support them to develop confidence in their visual analysis skills and practical response.
