Haoyang Zhao’s research focuses on the visual and material culture of imperial China, as well as the history of collecting and provenance research of Chinese art that circulated in the late 19th and early 20th-century art market, with a particular emphasis on the Qing imperial album Huangchao Liqi Tushi (皇朝禮器圖式). He recently passed his PhD viva in History of Art at the University of Glasgow, where his research provided an art historical and provenance analysis of the scattered pages from this album. He also holds an MRes in History of Art from the University of Glasgow, an MA in History of Art/Archaeology in East Asia from SOAS, University of London, and a BA in History of Art in East Asia from SOAS. Prior to joining the Courtauld, he worked as a researcher at Sotheby’s, an is currently an Editorial Assistant at Orientations magazine.
