Worlding Art History: Negotiating the Global and the Local

15 Mar 2018

This weekend The Courtauld Institute of Art will host its Modern and Contemporary Postgraduate Colloquium. The Colloquium offers the opportunity for research students from universities across the world to present and promote their research. This year an international panel of speakers have been invited to discuss the intersection of the local and the global in their diverse fields of research, from the 19th century to the present day. Navigating a space between the global and the local is a pertinent cross-disciplinary topic in an age when few societies remain untouched by globalisation. The geographical reach of the colloquium is ambitious—spanning the entirety of the world, from the depths of Asia to the heart of South America. The interdisciplinary scope and thematic range of the papers—from the biennialised contemporary art scene and Egyptian modernism, to the use of plastic in localised Argentinian construction—promises an event not to be missed.

Organised by Jasmine Chohan (The Courtauld Institute of Art) and Sophie Guo (The Courtauld Institute of Art) with the generous support of The Sackler Research Forum.
