A Welcome from Professor Mark Hallett, Märit Rausing Director of The Courtauld

Professor Mark Hallett, Märit Rausing Director of The Courtauld, welcomes readers to the 46th issue of The Courtauld News.

As many of you will know, I stepped into the role of Director in August 2023. I am honoured to join the incredible community of colleagues, students, supporters, alumni and visitors at the
heart of The Courtauld. I have arrived at The Courtauld during an incredibly exciting time as we approach a significant milestone: our 100th anniversary in 2032.

Your contributions and conversations have been crucial in shaping my vision for our future. This is to see The Courtauld become the world’s most ambitious, dynamic and innovative
centre for the study of the visual arts – a unique place of learning where students have the opportunity to benefit from an unrivalled range and depth of teaching in the history, conservation, curation, and business of art. We also aim to be a thriving hub of individual
and collaborative research, and an extraordinary art gallery, offering one of the UK’s most satisfying visitor experiences.

thriving culture, economy and society. Finally, we want to become a global pioneer in the digital sphere, opening up the study of art to an international audience through innovative and
accessible forms of online provision. Underpinning everything we do is our desire to become an inspiring beacon of scholarly excellence and an institution that offers an exemplary model of inclusion, openness and accessibility – one that lives up to our founder Samuel Courtauld’s vision of ‘art for all.’
