The lecture reports on the abundant results of an interdisciplinary research project about the prominent collection of Florentine paintings of the 14th to 16th century at the Alte Pinakothek. For the first time, approximately 80 works from Giotto to Vasari were thoroughly surveyed from an art historical and technological perspective. The inventory catalogue presents new insights into attribution, provenance, iconography, history of genre and function. Analyses of the materials and painting techniques sound out the artists’ working methods and provide a better understanding of the coherences between technical and stylistic developments.
