This guided visit will include a visit to St Bartholomew the Less, the Square, the Hogarth staircase, the Great Hall and the West Wing. The Hogarth’s paintings illustrate two well-known Biblical stories: The Good Samaritan and Christ healing the lame man at the Pool of Bethesda; painted on a very large scale, they fill a wall of the Grand Staircase in the Hospital’s North Wing, and represent the first of Hogarth’s attempts at ‘the great style of history painting’, as he called it.
Afterwards there is free time to visit the St Bartholomew Hospital Museum. |
