Join us for the launch of the 2024 issue of Immediations, The Courtauld Institute of Art Journal of Postgraduate Research.
This edition of Immediations includes an artist interview, five articles, and two reviews on the theme of ‘Art on the Edge.’ The interview with London-based Nigerian Artist Bunmi Agusto, was conducted by Tatjana Schaefer and Rada Giorgieva, complements the artist’s work on the journal’s cover. The articles cover a diverse range of time periods and geographies, investigating the limits of art and art history. Rebecka Öhrström Kann considers the limits of representation and experience in the performance art of Tibor Hajas. Alice Chambers examines how the physical phenomenon of earthquakes was represented in eighteenth-century print media. Rachel Alban investigates the edges and margins of Safavid manuscript decoration. Grace Fannon explores the depicted edges of empire and the development of British imperial identity through maritime paintings. Bianca Arthur-Hull examines the created experience of pilgrimage in early modern Italy.
This issue also includes reviews by Sarah Brokehborough and Joseph Rosalind-Hayat.
In its twenty-first year, Immediations continues to provide a global forum for showcasing rigorous and innovative research from Courtauld’s postgraduate students and early career researchers. Available for free online and in print, the journal is at the forefront of providing scholars in the arts and humanities with open access to new research and writing.
