Ellen Brown

Associate Lecturer

Ellie Brown is an AHRC-funded doctoral student in History of Art at the University of Warwick, working on an architectural history of shopping centres constructed in Britain between 1968–82. The thesis examines how the design of shopping centres was the process of negotiation between historic built environments and modern mall trends coming out of North America and Europe. The research also draws upon histories of the architectural press, the department store, interior design, and sculpture to interrogate the shopping centre as a new space in the wider modernist landscape of the twentieth century.
