Access Schemes

SCONUL Access is the largest borrowing scheme for Higher Education researchers in the UK and Ireland, its members can borrow books from 129 Higher Education institutions.

This scheme is for academic staff on open or fixed term contracts and postgraduate research students registered for a PhD, MPhil or similar qualification awarded purely by research.

  • Art Libraries.Net: virtual catalogue for art history, searches a number of catalogues and systems, from research institutes and libraries, educational institutions, museums and exhibition centres to specialist union catalogues, online bibliographies and other relevant databases.   • The European Library, searches the content of European national libraries.
  • IRIS (Associazione di Biblioteche Storico-Artistiche e Umanistiche a Firenze), comprises such libraries as Biblioteca Berenson – Villa I Tatti, Biblioteca degli Uffizi and Biblioteca dell’Opificio delle Pietre Dure.
  • KUBIKAT, the collective catalogue of four of the leading German scholarly research institutes in the field of art history: Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence, Max-Planck-Institut, Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich, Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte / Centre allemand d’histoire de l’art in Paris and Bibliotheca Hertziana, Max Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte in Rome.
  • URBS (Unione Romana Biblioteche Scientifiche), comprises such libraries as those of the British School at Rome and the Ecole française de Rome.

  • arlis.net, includes access to a periodicals database for more than 90 academic, public, national and special libraries in the UK and Ireland.
  • SALSER, a serials catalogue for Scottish academic and research libraries.
  • SUNCAT, Serials Union Catalogue for the UK.
  • University of London Union List of Serials, enables searching of libraries within the M25 region and more widely across the East and Southeast.
