Supporting our community

We also recognise that this will continue to be a difficult time for our students, whether new or returning students, and that social distancing will make some of the traditional ways of meeting people or seeking support more difficult. This is an area we will continue to work on, but we can commit to:

  • A fully programmed Online Welcome Week, to help new students feel part of our community.
  • Ensuring all BA1 students are assigned Personal Tutors at the start of the academic year, to help with the settling in process.
  • A greater focus on online student support information, on everything from study skills to how to make the transition to university.
  • Continuing to offer our counselling, wellbeing and careers services through creative online means.
  • Student support services will continue to be delivered predominantly online, but there will be an on-site presence from the Student and Academic Services team, with a booking system put in place to avoid queues.
  • Setting up a new online Writing Centre, to support students with their essay and dissertation writing skills; and offering access to the Royal Literary Fellows online.

In addition, our Extenuating Circumstances Policy will continue to take the impacts of COVID-19 into account, and our Hardship Fund will continue to provide for short notice emergency expenses that may be incurred as the result of changes in Government advice or the pandemic status on specific countries.
