Welcome to The Courtauld!

Enrolment and Induction Week: Monday 24 September - Friday 28 September.

There are a number of important events throughout our Enrolment and Induction week, ranging from getting you registered for the year ahead, introduction sessions for your programme, registering for a GP through to orientation for students new to the UK.

This week will help get your bearings for the year and provide information on the range of academic and non-academic support available. Sessions are not repeated, so it is advised that you attend all relevant sessions to avoid missing out on important information.

All Enrolment and Induction Week events will be taking place at The Courtauld’s Somerset House location. As per our previous correspondence, all teaching will be taking place in Somerset House for the Autumn Term before our temporary move to Vernon Square for the Spring Term.

Below you will find our Enrolment and Induction Week schedule, reminders on how to pay tuition fees and what your first steps as a international student on a visa will be.

Enrolment and Induction Week Schedule

Here you will find our 2018 Enrolment and Induction Week schedule for all programmes.

The schedule is subject to change and there may well be some minor changes, so please check back periodically, especially just before the start of Enrolment and Induction week.

There are further guidelines – what to bring for enrolment sessions, and an explanation of library groups and MA History of Art groupings – below.

Enrolment and Induction Week Schedule 2018

Enrolment consists of two stages for all students, new and continuing:

Stage 1 – Online Enrolment

Stage 2 – In-person Enrolment

You will receive an email with a link to Stage 1 ahead of Enrolment and Induction Week. Stage 1 must be completed before you attend an Enrolment session for Stage 2 enrolment.

Enrolment will be held in the Research Forum on the mezzanine floor. There will be signage leading up from The Courtauld reception foyer.

For the Stage 2 enrolment session you will proceed as follows:

Finance Desk – To confirm that you have paid tuition / pay tuition

Enrolment Desk – To process your enrolment

Student Services Front Desk – Once enrolled you will be able to pick up your Student ID card

All students should bring the following – you will not be able to enrol otherwise:

  • Passport (other official forms of identification may be accepted but should be cleared with the admissions team in advance)
  • Payment for fees/proof of payment for fees (including SLC confirmation letter for those in receipt of SLC funding)
  • Biometric Residence Permit (if applicable)

New students (those starting a new a programme) should also bring:

  • Original copies of your relevant qualifications and English Language Test if required. Undergraduate students do not need to provide hard copy qualifications unless otherwise requested. Previous Courtauld graduates also do not need to provide evidence of their qualifications.

Larger programmes have staggered Enrolment times by surname alphabetical order. Please check the Enrolment and Induction Schedule for specific slots within your programme.

Due to the size of the MA History of Art programme we split Welcome and Induction sessions and Enrolment Sessions into two groups based on period section:

Group 1 – Modern and Contemporary

Group 2 – Classical, Medieval and Byzantine + Renaissance + Early Modern

Library Tours are a fantastic opportunity for you to meet our friendly Library Staff and be guided around our library – where various different book types and research materials can be found and the ins and outs of library use.

As the Library will be in use and due to the small size of many of the book aisles and sections, larger programmes have their library tours split into separate groups. For most programmes these are recommended times – you may attend any of the dedicated sessions for your programme.

Due to it’s large size, The MA History of Art programme is split into groups based on MA Option as below:

When will I get my teaching timetable?

A general programme timetable will be emailed out as soon as it is fully confirmed. Upon enrolment and gaining IT access you will be able to view a personalised timetable on the VLE.

Can I enrol early?

Unfortunately it is not possible for us to register you before 24 September 2018.

I cannot make the enrolment session for my programme - what can I do?

We will be able to arrange for you to enrolment at a different time.

What if I will be late to enrol?

We expect all students to enrol on time, though understand that there may be exceptional circumstances that cause delay.

All students must be enrolled by 31 October 2018 – any student not enrolled by this time will be withdrawn from the programme.

I am an international student - Do I need to attend both the International Student Visa Check and Enrolment session and my programme enrolment session?

No – if you are an international student and required a visa to study in the UK, you only need to attend the international student session.

Study Abroad students should also attend this session.

I'm an international student and haven't picked up my BRP yet - can I still enrol?

We will not be able to fully enrol you until we can scan your Bio-metric Residence Permit (BRP). Please plan around being in the UK ahead of the international student enrolment day to allow yourself enough time to pick up your BRP.

What if I am having problems with my entry vignette or cannot pick up my Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) visa prior to enrolment?

Contact us immediately if you are having any problems in regards to arriving into the UK before enrolment, delays in picking up your BRP prior to 28 September, or any other visa issues

Requesting Letters

You will be sent a link to request any additional letters after you have completed Stage Two enrolment. Letters you may require include: a bank letter (enabling you to set up a student bank account), or Council Tax exemption letter, which you will need if you are living in a rented flat rather than the halls of residence. You will not be able to request these letters until you have completed Stage Two enrolment.

When requesting a bank letter, you are advised to provide the name and address of the branch at which you intend to open your account. As banks will not accept a generic letter we will need the branch details in order to create a letter for the bank you have chosen.

Please note that there is a high demand for letters at the start of the academic year.

You will be emailed as soon as your letters are ready to collect from the Student Services Office

How do I apply for my Student Oyster Card?

You will be eligible for a Student Oyster Card once you have completed Stage 2 enrolment. You must apply directly via TFL at www.tfl.gov.uk, providing your Student ID number found on your Student ID card. It may take a few weeks to be processed and sent to you by TFL.
