Relics seem to be more powerful the more they are spread about.  Beginning with the example of the widely disseminated relics of Thomas Becket evidenced by surviving reliquaries and ampullae, we will also examine other instances of such practices such as the distribution of relics of the True Cross and the Crown of Thorns. These material practices of ‘multiplication’ create an enduring web of influence and a powerful community of the faithful.
