MA curating artists' talk

Beyond Bloomsbury: Contemporary Artists on the Human Figure

Join us for a conversation between two contemporary artists, Saleem Arif Quadri MBE and Tsugumi Ota, on the subject of the human body in art. Their work, grounded in myth and spirituality, is featured side-by-side in the special exhibition CORPUS: The Body Unbound in the Courtauld Gallery of Art. Curated in response to Bloomsbury: Art & DesignCORPUS highlights the work of artists who, like the Bloomsbury Group, cultivate innovative artistic practices that reflect their unique visual, thematic, and narrative preoccupations.

CORPUS: The Body Unbound, June 16 – July 16, is an exhibition that explores how artists past and present have engaged with the body – the corpus – to interrogate, analyse and reimagine fundamental aspects of the human condition. To different artists, the figure has been a site of optimism, a source of anxiety, as well as a symbol of limitations imposed by the self and society. Curated by the students of the Courtauld’s MA Curating the Art Museum, CORPUS: The Body Unbound responds to the Courtauld Gallery’s Special Display Bloomsbury Art & Design, on view in the adjacent gallery.
