Our endowment fund
The Courtauld requires a major endowment which can release a substantial and reliable flow of funds to the operating budget in order to provide enduring support for the academic mission of the Courtauld. In 2002 The Courtauld’s endowment was set up in response to this need. At present endowment support represents 5.5% of our £13m annual income and our goal is to double this figure. The value of the endowment fund was £27.8m at July 2014.
Making an endowment gift
A donation to endowment enables you to make a gift that will support The Courtauld annually for years to come. Major donors are able to make a range of gifts to the endowment from unrestricted endowment gifts, to restricted gifts to support regular activities such as endowed academic programmes, posts, and scholarships. On becoming a major endowment donor you join a welcoming group of likeminded individuals and enthusiasts, and open the door to discover more about the fascinating world of art history.
Endowment gifts can be ‘named’ either in your name, or in honour of another, thus creating permanent recognition of your philanthropy. There is a range of naming options including academic and curatorial posts or scholarships. Alternatively you may wish to create a fund for an area of our work, such as conservation.
The Courtauld’s investment strategy is agreed and monitored by the Courtauld Investment Subcommittee and is made up of leading financial experts – this Subcommittee reports directly to the Courtauld’s Board of Governors. Cambridge Associates is charged with advising the Investment Subcommittee on strategic asset allocation, fund manager selection and fund management monitoring.
We would be delighted to tell you more about endowment gift opportunities at the Courtauld. If you are considering a gift of endowment we recommend that this is discussed with The Courtauld to ensure that both your gift intentions and The Courtauld’s needs are met. Your enquiry is confidential and of course places you under no obligation.
